Weekly Shabbat Morning Programs

Minyan Katan: 0-5 years-old with an adult

11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for this fun, energetic and engaging Shabbat experience. In creative Shabbat morning experience, children and their families will sing, dance, hear stories, and learn about Shabbat in an interactive and participatory environment. At Minyan Katan, children and their families will experience the joy of Shabbat in a warm and educational atmosphere.

Minyan Katan is lead on alternating Shabbatot by Hadar Schwartz and Ariel Beinart:

Hadar Schwartz brings her energy, enthusiasm, and great knowledge of Judaism to our Minyan Katan program. She is a first-year doctoral student in CUNY's Clinical Psychology Program and a graduate of Barnard College. Hadar has worked with children of all ages in a range of capacities including as a babysitter, Tot Shabbat leader, teacher, and camp counselor. She is excited to continue working with the children of Shaare Zedek and creating a meaningful and educational Shabbat experience for them.

Ariel Beinart is very excited to share her enthusiasm for Judaism with the young children of Congregation Shaare Zedek. As a rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary, she is a firm believer in the importance of Jewish education for children of all ages. Ariel graduated from the Double Degree program with Barnard College and JTS and spends her summers at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Through interactive activities, Ariel creates a special Shabbat experience for the participants of Minyan Katan.

Minyan Gadol: 6-12 years-old

11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Children approaching the date of their bar/bat-mitzvah are encouraged to begin attending the main service with their parent(s).

This program offers a creative and fresh look at many of the morning prayers, and engaging discussions and activities in the theme of the weekly Torah portion and/or relevant holidays. It is an hour that will make your kids look forward to coming to synagogue and excited about being Jewish.

Minyan Gadol is led by Ory Rinat, an undergraduate student in the Joint Program with Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary. Ory spent a year in Israel on the NATIV Leadership Program, grew up speaking Hebrew at home in Queens and has extensive experience working with this age group. Back by popular demand, Ory is returning for his third year conducting youth programming at Shaare Zedek.
