Israel on the College Campus: Offense or Defense?

  • Congregation Shaare Zedek 212 West 93rd Street New York, NY, 10025 United States (map)

Issues surrounding Israel on college campuses are well-known, but what causes them? Join us after Shabbat morning services and kiddush lunch when Uri Cohen will discuss root causes of this phenomenon as well as strategies for changing the tenor of this contentious "conversation".

Uri Cohen is the Executive Director of Hillel at Queens College, a post he has held since 2011. He has had multiple affiliations with Hillel over his career, including student leadership at Penn Hillel and work for Hillel International. In 2015, Queens College Hillel was recognized with Hillel International's Philip H. and Susan Rudd Cohen Outstanding Campus Award, entering it into the elite cadre of Hillels to receive that honor. Uri, his wife Stacey, and son Noah have been involved at Shaare Zedek over the last 16 years, and Uri and Noah were recently dubbed "SZ's Torah Elves" by the shul's President for rolling the sifrei Torah under cover of darkness.
